About Mill Race Race

The Mill Race Race & Mayor’s Race was founded by the Columbus Running Club just over 13 years ago as a means to financially support a local organization of the club’s choosing. In 2004, the Club selected Healthy Communities Initiative (HCI) as its benefactor.

At that time, the CRC entered into a partnership with the Columbus Regional Hospital Foundation and HCI was established for organizational and logistical support. Since 2004, the event has grown significantly in participation and funds raised.

In late 2007, the Columbus Running Club took over complete race administration. However, the race committee continues to be comprised of representatives from community organizations who have shown generous support for the work of the Running Club and the Mill Race Race.

The Mill Race Race is the largest road race in Bartholomew County and surrounding area with more than 500 runners and walkers participating each year. The Kids Fun Run is one of the largest as well with over 200 childaren ages 2 to 12 participating in at least one of the events. Our “run” is actually three different runs – each designed for an age group. The shortest kids run course is half a mile and designed for children 2 to 5. The next course is one mile, designed for children 5 to 8. The longest course is 1.5 miles and for children 8 to 12.  Each of the courses are laid out around the ‘round lake”inside Mill Race Park. The two longer courses cross the covered bridge and run the last three quarters of a mile of the 15k run.  Every child crosses the official race finish line, recives a finisher’s ribbon and goes through the racer food and water line like the adult racers.

The Mill Race Race & Mayor’s Walk is a family event with something for everyone of any ability. It is not uncommon to have a whole family entered in one of our many events – with family and friends stationed at the finish line to cheer each one as they cross the line!

We hope you join us in 2009!
