2010 Race Info

About the event

The 2010 event is hosted by Columbus Running Club, the City of Columbus, and Paragon Meeting & Events. The 14th Annual Mill Race Race and Mayor's Walk features scenic 15K & 5K courses—which  are flat, fast, and USATF certified. The courses wind through the heart of downtown Columbus, the essence of small town America. The routes showcase tree-lined city streets, lovely parks, a historical covered bridge, and world-renowned architecture. The courses use the park system's People Trails for a portion of the race.

Walking at an Event
Walking events raise questions about form or technique to walk. The most frequent is "in a race, how is walking defined?" When running or jogging - even at a slow pace - there is brief period when both feet are off the ground, commonly referred to as the flight phase. In contrast, and purposes of Mill Race Race events, walking is defined as "one foot is always in contact with the ground." You may have heard of race walking or power walking. These are two techniques to walk at a faster pace than an everday pace. Just one of the "rules" for these forms of walking is having one foot in contact with the ground at all times. There are several others that define the strides and movement of the body, giving those who use these techniques a distinctive and easily spotted gait.

When considering whether to enter an event as a runner or a walker here is a good rule of thumb to consider - runners can slow down and walk during a race, but walkers may not begin to run or jog, event for a short distance. Running or jogging in a walk event is grounds for disqualification.

Racewalkers - you are welcome to enter our events. Note: the courses are not judged and there is no distinct racewalk division.

Fluid Stations
Water and POWERade will be available at every fluid station on the race course as well as at the finish. Portable toilets will be available near the start line. Complimentary food and drink will be available to all race participants at the end of the race. Look for the towels at the finish line and at the Mexian Corn booth again this year!

Donate your old shoes -- Changing Footprints Collection Point
Want to clean out your closet of shoes you no longer wear? Once again, the Mill Race Race will be a collection point for Changing Footprints, a not-for-profit organization located in Rushville. Bring gently-used shoes, slippers, and boots—any footwear—which you no longer want. CF will make sure your shoes will find a new home with a family in need of shoes.

Collection boxes will be available at packet pick-up, race day registration desk and at the Changing Footprints tent at the post-race party.

changing FootprintsChanging Footprints is dedicated to the collection of new and gently-used shoes and the distribution of those shoes on every level, be it local, international, for a missionary opportunity, or for disaster relief. Recent distributions have included relief for tornado victims in southern Indiana, Katrina relief, sending boxes with church missions to Africa, and working with Rupert's Kids in Indianapolis to provide footwear for low-income families in Marion County. Visit www.changingfootprints.com to learn more.

Parking
Ample parking is available in the Cummins' west parking lot directly across from Mill Race Park (enter from Lindsey or Brown Streets). No parking will be available inside the park. Additional parking can be found along several nearby city streets.

15K Course Closing
